Incredible

June 9, 2010

Dear Friend,

First of all, from the bottom of my heart, on behalf of my entire family – thank you. Raquel and I were moved by the hospitality, generosity and support we received from literally thousands of Californians. As a testament of your support and dedication, we had a truly incredible showing in last night’s election.

The media pundits gave our campaign little chance and even less attention. We were outspent by a nearly 12 to 1 margin. Yet, last night, our campaign won the second most counties of any candidate and finished less than one percentage point from second place.

We organized the strongest coalition of supporters of any candidate and did so well last night because Californians agree: education should be the key to our future and safety.

We took our campaign to every corner of the state – and I will never forget the welcome we received from our fellow Californians.

We took on Big Oil with AB 656 – and we have organized nearly 100,000 Californians to join
our cause.

We took up the cause of Education as a Civil Right – and Californians responded by
the thousands.

And, most significantly, we accomplished all of this because of you.

You agreed that the most effective way to create a safer, more secure California is to invest in education and to ensure every child has an equal chance to succeed in schools that receive equal funding. And, after last night’s election results, it's clear we are not alone.

This election is over but our work is far from complete. Our message shaped this race and, I truly believe, will ultimately help shape the future of our great state. Our fight will not end until we recognize in word and deed that education is more than a privilege or an aspiration. Education is a civil right for all.

Again, thank you.

Sincerely,
Alberto Torrico
